Walton Work Camp is an FDC satellite unit under Walton Correctional Institution administration. Its residents are state prisoners, not ordinary pretrial detainees from the county jail. Leaving the work camp can have several meanings. A prisoner may return to the main unit, transfer to another FDC institution, leave prison under supervision, or complete the correctional term. Only the last two paths place the person outside prison custody.
Camp assignment is one location in a statewide sentence. The FDC current-population record can reveal a new institution after reassignment. Inmate Release Information can show a true departure from custody. Supervised Population may then show probation, parole, conditional release, or another field-supervision status. Read those results as a sequence. A local move within the Walton complex is still an FDC transfer, even when the unit name changes.

Walton County Jail cannot correct a state sentence calculation, and the prison’s location in Walton County does not make WCSO the records custodian.
Walton Work Camp Satellite Status
FDC separately names Walton Work Camp as the satellite unit of Walton Correctional Institution. The published complex contact is 691 Institution Road in DeFuniak Springs, and the main telephone route is (850) 951-1300. Research provides a capacity of 1,201 for the main institution, not a distinct camp capacity. That main-unit figure should not be assigned to the work camp or treated as a release total.
Facility location and county of conviction answer different questions. Someone sentenced in Walton County can be housed elsewhere. Someone housed at Walton Correctional Institution may have no Walton County case. The DC number and statewide sentence record are better matching tools than county name. The prison page also should not be read as a local booking roster or a list of everyone convicted by Walton courts.

A current-prisoner detail may display Current Release Date. Florida law calls the calculation behind it a tentative release date. Gain-time awards, forfeitures, review, sentence changes, and other lawful inputs can move it. An actual released record and Date Out-Custody are the stronger historical evidence after the event.
Walton Work Camp Supervised Release
Release from prison does not always end correctional oversight. Probation is ordinarily a court-imposed community term. Parole is discretionary release for a narrow population under Florida’s older laws. Conditional release is another statutory form of post-prison supervision. FDC field officers carry out supervision, while the Florida Commission on Offender Review makes certain release decisions within its authority.
Search Supervised Population by DC number or name and compare status, supervision type, current office, and termination date. FDC says its full supervision data refreshes weekly, with termination dates and location changes updated nightly. Do not assume the DeFuniak office simply because the person left Walton Correctional Institution. Supervision can be transferred, and the current record should control.

Walton Work Camp Transfers
Movement from Walton Work Camp to the main institution is a placement change within FDC. It is not community release. The camp has a separate facility name because FDC identifies it as a satellite unit, but both units rely on the same population, release, and supervision records. The local unit label may change while the DC number and state commitment remain fixed.
The same rule applies to a move from Walton Correctional Institution to any other Florida prison. Check the current population detail for the new facility. If the person later leaves prison, confirm the event in Inmate Release Information and then examine Supervised Population. That sequence prevents a common error: describing a transfer date as a discharge date.
The camp’s separate name does not create a separate discharge archive. When a record shows a change near the expected release date, compare the update dates and the person’s exact DC number before drawing a conclusion. A current location at the main unit or another prison means custody continued. A released entry supplies the state departure evidence, while Supervised Population shows whether field oversight followed. Court records can explain a sentence or order, but FDC remains the source for the state custody movement. Send unresolved date or status conflicts to the Bureau of Admission and Release with the DC number and copies of the relevant labels.
A prior Walton County Jail booking may appear in a separate county system. That local Release Date only closes the jail booking. If FDC intake followed, the person entered state custody. Use the county and state records together to build the timeline, but never merge their prospective or historical date fields.
